Detailed Information on our anonymous & secure Surfing / VPN products

This page is intended to help you decide which one of our technical solutions suits you best.
We will provide you with detailed information on the various advantages and disadvantages each solution offers, as well as with configuration help (howto, tutorial, configuration examples, some with screenshots) for the most common environments, devices and operating systems.
Each technical solution, be it a web proxy, normal http proxy, SOCKS proxy or even advanced VPN / tunnel setups like PPTP, IPSEC or L2TP/IPSEC offer different degrees of anonymity and security through encryption.

Solutions currently offered
To give you an overview, here is a list of solutions we currently offer.
  • Web Proxy

    • This is a proxy application which you access through the SurfoNym website. It's the default, and included in the SurfoNym MEMBER package.
  • HTTP Proxy

    • This is a normal proxy, which you configure in your browser (internet options). It works like the proxy you get from your ISP.
  • SOCKS Proxy

    • The SOCKS proxy is an advanced technology. It enables you to use anonymous networking for every networked application you want.
  • Tunnels / VPNs

    • Various kinds of VPN tunnels ensure the most anonymity and security through heavy, industry-standard encryption. While the setup is sometimes difficult, the benefits are great.

    We prepared a small comparison of all solutions, so you can quickly decide which one to have a closer look at.

    Web Proxy
    The Web Proxy is an application which runs on our webserver. You can access it through our webpage with your browser. Just surf to www.surfonym.com and go to "members".
    The web proxy supports HTTP, HTTPS and FTP. As a paying customer, you access the web proxy through HTTPS, so all traffic will be encrypted!
    The advantage of this solution is that you don't need to install or configure anything - just use the web proxy whenever you desire anonymity and security.
    We also integrated spam, advertisment and script filters in our software.
    The disadvantage is that you can only use the protocols mentioned above. Other applications, like E-Mail, ICQ, BitTorrent, etc. will not work - they will use your normal ISP.
    Please note, contrary to other anonymous surfing providers, we don't just use one of the available web proxy applications - we constantly work on our application to further improve it, remove bugs, add features. So if you experience a problem with the web proxy, please mail us and we will most probably fix it.
    Our Web Proxy includes features for hiding the page's title and for encrypting the page's URL.

    HTTP Proxy
    The HTTP Proxy is a normal proxy server for HTTP and FTP traffic. You can use it with every browser, just add the proxy server's hostname in the internet options menu.
    Our proxy server software will provide full anonymity and effectively hide your IP address. This means that we will even filter your browser's User-Agent header as well as the X-Forwarded-For header.
    The most important advantage of a HTTP proxy is that it's absolutely simple and fast. You don't need any software installed, just use your browser. You can enable / disable the proxy server with just a few mouse clicks. We use a stable and proven software, which makes browsing through a proxy especially stable and fast.
    The disadvantage is that the traffic will not be encrypted as the protocol doesn't support it. Also HTTPS is not supported. Other protocols like e-mail or ICQ will not work.
